Very few institutions of high school are as steeped in tradition as Homecoming. From Spirit Week to the bonfire to Star Search, there is something for everyone. This week, students displayed that they were bursting at the seams with Wildcat pride and school spirit.

Always a favorite, hallway decorations were big once again this year. This year’s themes were “Wildcat Strong Boot Camp”, “CandyLand”, “The Rave Cave” and “Friday Night Fever.”

Homecoming Day is always a highlight due to the fun, learning-free activities. After hallway decoration wrapped up, everyone headed to the auditorium to meet the king and queen candidates so voting could be finished before what many consider to be the best part of Homecoming-Star Search!

This year’s Star Search was as diverse as it was entertaining. Stand-up comedy, acapella routines, a rap performance that had the crowd on its feet and a musical skit featuring the Class of 2014 were just a few of the many acts that graced the stage.

“It was an experience,” Logan Glenn, junior, said. “[Ours] was probably the greatest composition in human history and I’m looking forward to next year’s show.”

This year there was a 4-way tie for the best act. The winners were “Desktop Riot” with Dustyn Rizzo, freshman, Brendan Clary, sophomore and Jerod Bond, sophomore; Luke Hupp, senior, and his brother, Ben Hupp, freshman; Jessica Brummel, senior, and Mara Justesen, freshman; and Nic JoRay, senior, and Justesen.

Then, the entire student body moved down to the gym for the poster competition and a “Newlywed Game” with the Homecoming candidates. The Jazzy Cats and cheerleaders also performed.

“It was a great adventure that brought all of the candidates together,” Erica Edwards, senior, said.

Before the game, Ben Powers and Edwards were crowned Homecoming Queen and King.
